Ace Hardware has provided free paint samples. I was also compensated for my time and this blog post. All opinions and positions expressed here are my own and do not necessarily reflect those of Ace Hardware
So white, so bright, so… boring. Even Mango is bored laying on that bed. So we decided to freshen up our space. And we went bold. I usually am more reserved … all our walls are still white because I am sometimes scared when it comes to color. But, this time, I threw cautious April out and let bold April make the choice: Valspar Velvet Curtains from Ace Hardware. I love Ace. My first job was a cashier at the local Ace next door to my childhood home, so for me, going to The Paint Studio at Ace is like going to your neighbor.
I am so glad I let bold April have her way. This is SO far outside my normally subdued box that my husband thought I might have lost it. So I had to make him a mood board to prove that this could work:
He still couldn’t see my vision, but since he trusts me, he said ok. (Can we just have a sidebar about how much I love this man?!) I think that my vision came to life pretty well, don’t you?
The paint spurred on a lot of other changes. We actually changed the orientation of the whole room in order to make my vision work, and we are so glad we did. Here was the layout before:
So many questions come to mind when I see this. WHY are three doors all next to one another? WHY do you have a random buffet under your window? WHY?! Well, honestly, I do not know about the builder who put all those door on one wall, but whatever… the buffet is totally our fault. We inherited some furniture and the buffet was part of a set. We temporarily put it in our bedroom until we found a space for it. That was in November. Geez. I am never putting furniture temporarily in my bedroom again. What a pain. I am so glad we moved it out… check out what we have now:
The new layout makes the room feel HUGE! We ditched the buffet, and our white dresser. We moved our huge side tables under the window and they act as perfect his and hers dressers. We got new smaller side tables to fit against that new beautifully painted wall, and we found we had so much room we could even move in the upholstered glider. Yay for a reading nook! I can’t wait to show you the other changes this color inspired later this week, like the artwork we put up! At first, this color at first felt scary… but every day I began to love it more and more and I am so happy we went bold. Have you ever made a bold color choice? How did it turn out?
