Let’s just start right off by getting this out of the way – I am NOT pregnant. Seriously.
This post is all about diaper bags though, because I have a number of first-time pregnant friends and friends of friends, and since I am a mom I get a lot of questions from first time moms or non-mom friends who are going to baby showers about what moms like.
The other day an illistyle fan asked me: “How did you choose a diaper bag?” As a cloth diapering momma I had some extra requirements and as an organization-lover I had specific requirements. So, here we go:
A big shoulder bag.
Lots of Pockets.
Stroller handle attachments.
Outside pockets for keys and water/baby bottles.
Snap or zipper closure at the top.
These are some Etsy finds that I would have LOVED when my daughter was born:
Here’s why I love it: Sturdy reinforced sides and handles, exterior pockets for water or baby bottles and pacifiers, lots of interior room and pockets, bright interior so things won’t get lost in a black hole, snap closure at top.
Grey and White Chevron with Pink trim by BagEnvy on etsy $125
This one is so cute. I love the shape of the bag and the pink accents. Snap closure and outside pockets. I love that it comes with a coordinating change pad too.
Large Zippered Tote by WatermelonWishes on etsy $155
Zippered top and outter pockets. Anyone whose ever had a curious 8 month old near the diaper bag knows how important zippers are. Fabric that won’t show stains.
Grey Twill Diaper Bag by WatermelonWishes on etsy $125
Cuteness overload. I love the grey and bright patterned interior with coordinating change pad and diaper clutch. This compact bag has so much: sturdy construction. Reinforced handles. exterior and interior pockets. Evan a key fob.
When I had my little one this is similar to the diaper bag I used for her first 18 months:
Skip Hop has discontinued my version, which was only two front pockets instead of three. So mine was more compact. But this bag was a workhorse for me. I actually still have it. Yes, it just sits in the closet, but it was my constant companion for 18 months. I am sentimental like that. Here’s what I loved about it: it held everything. Two side mesh bottle pockets – everyone can stay hydrated, yeah! Built-in stroller straps. Lots of interior pockets. Coordinating folding change pad with dedicated pocket. Also, at the top, on both sides, were shallow zipper that ran across the entire top of the bag to hold all those rando little things like nose drops and baby tylenol that otherwise would float around the bag for months without being used and then when you finally need them they have worked their way into a crevasse unreachable.
If I had to choose a new bag (which I do not have to do because I AM NOT WITH CHILD), this one might just be my new favorite:
The price is right! The size of this sucker would suffice for a cloth diapering momma… so much bulky fabric with cloth diapers. Bright interior so as to avoid the black-hole syndrom that becomes diaper bags. Zippered closure, exterior pockets, and side rings that can accommodate stroller handle attachments.
