I love the holiday season. We celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas in our home. We believe that this is a time of giving thanks to the Lord for how He has loved us as well as show that love to others through giving. I am continually on the look out for ways we can practically help those in need. I carry water bottles and a first aid kit in my car in order to be able to help in emergencies. We love purchasing gifts for those we love through organizations who help others. TOMS shoes is that type of organization. For years they have been doing their one-for-one campaign, when you buy one pair of shoes for yourself they donate a pair to a child in need. Many people wonder if TOMS really does what they claim to do. As an eye witness, I can tell you yes, they do.
When I lived in Roatan we were working as missionaries. In Honduras, all schools (public + private) require their students wear uniforms, including : black closed-toe shoes. School fees, uniform costs, book fees … these all add up quickly, especially for families who live on less than $5/day. If the choice comes down to spending money on shoes or eating dinner, the dinner will get chosen, everytime. It is how we are made to value sustaining life over all else. Therefore many children in Roatan cannot attend school because their parents simply cannot afford to pay for all the costs associated with it.
That’s where TOMS came in. They came to the island through people like me and you and went into local schools, measured the kids feet, and then delivered brand new black shoes. I personally know more than one child who only has one pair of shoes: TOMS. These shoes were provided free of cost to the kids because people in North America had purchased a pair of TOMS.
And now Toms For Target: One-for-One. For All. For each Target+Toms limited edition gift you buy, Target will be giving giving shoes, a blanket or meals to those in need.
