As you guys know from my Caramel Apple post, we got a new faucet in the kitchen. Yay! It is making my life easier. You know what is making my life a TON easier? A dishwasher. Yeah. It is awesome. In our 11 years of marriage I have never had a dishwasher. I know that probably sounds funny since I confessed yesterday that I had to learn how to dry laundry on a line after we moved to Roatan since I had always had a dryer. Dryer = always. Dishwasher = never. I am a woman of many suprises – obviously.
So the glory of the dishwasher is new to me. We bought our new house in late spring, but moved to the summer lake house 2 weeks later (the hubby is a camp director – such a hard knock life for me.) So I feel like we have only really lived here for one month. When I knew I had to get dishwasher detergent (at least I knew that much, right?) I just picked up the generic brand from my local big box store…. because I didn’t know enough to know what brand cleaned better. I just knew that my glasses felt cleaner after they ran through the dishwasher than when I handwashed them, and there were less spots too. I have also learned the art of pre-rinsing dishes, though the husband has not.
(You guys know that I will only promote items that I actually love. I will never tell you something untrue. K? Cuz I love you. And I value you and if you are here hopefully it is because we have a solid relationship and we trust eachother. So, trust that I will only tell the truth.) When I decided to take the Finish Challenge I was skeptical. But I liked the fact that Quantum™ Power & Free™ had Hydrogen Peroxide and less harsh chemicals than what I was previously using. I know I am new to the game, but I thought, “how different can it really be?” Oh man, was I a noob. I decided to let the hubby have first crack at it. I figured if this stuff was really as good as it claimed, then unrinsed oatmeal bowls and all the caramel apple making stuff was like the ultimate challenge. Right? So he loaded the dishwasher. I was in charge of putting in the dishwasher detergent and setting it to run.
But here’s the deal. I totally did not tell him about switching to Finish dishwasher detergent. Ha. I am SO very tricky. Actually, no, I stink at being tricky, this is about as good as it gets guys. So, after dinner I was in the kitchen as he was unloading the dishwasher…. and ya know what he said totally unprompted? “The dishes feel different. Like cleaner. Did you clean the dishwasher or something?” I was shocked. This is my husband, he doesn’t recognize differences or changes in the weather. My love doesn’t notice when my hair gets cut and colored…. changes don’t register for him. So I was like “WHAT?!” I went and felt the dishes, and yep, 100% they seemed cleaner than they ever had been. To be honest it’s kinda of a weird clean, and I like it. It actually encouraged me to clean up more in the kitchen too.
So I cleaned and organized beneath the kitchen sink. This is the before. I know it looks somewhat organized, but literally things are just shoved in there. You can’t tell, but there is my old dish drainer from when I hand washed dishes, 2 empty squirt bottles, and 3 squirt guns. Cuz, that is all obviously needed down there, right?
See? There’s that pink squirt gun front and center. Her associates Mr. Green + Senor Azul are hiding in the back behind all the undersink miscellaneous. Cowards.
This is what I ditched from that pile:
And this is what was left under the sink:
I actually changed the location of everything. The big bottles that were behind the garbage disposal are now on the left because, duh, they are no longer stuck behind the garbage disposal. And all the dishwashing stuff went to the right because it is easier to just open the right cabinet door to get my dishwashing tabs because my dishwasher is on the left and now I will not be opening the left door into the dishwasher and blocking my own progress. The littlest of things can make the biggest difference.
As a heads up, Walmart has a Rollback for the product going until October that can be paired with this coupon for amazing savings:
So, I am a believer. What about you?
*Please remember, as with all cleaning supplies, please lock up your cleansers and supervise when letting children handle the product.
